Ashley Young handball: Man City deserved penalty against Man Utd - Gary Neville
That is the opinion of Sky Sports pundit and former Manchester United defender Gary Neville.
Young slipped in the fifth minute of the clash at the Etihad as he attempted to deal with a cross from Manchester City star David Silva.
The England international attempted to head the ball while on the floor to prevent it reaching Raheem Sterling at the back post, but instead pushed it away with his left hand.
On seeing the replay, Neville said Young was lucky referee Martin Atkinson did not point to the spot.
Commentator Martin Tyler believes Young’s attempts to head the ball saved him.
“He did move his head towards the ball but had no chance of reaching it,” Tyler said.
“I think it camouflaged the left hand.”
City went into the game knowing victory would secure the Premier League title with six games remaining.
